A Famous St Patrick’s Day Parade

We were Up reasonably early, for a big day ahead – St Patrick’s Day, in NYC- wondering whether the expectations would be matched by the reality ?

With Joe, we went out to a local restaurant for their famous eggs Benedict (although I had Irish smoked salmon) to start the day off well. Then it was on the metro, down to Times Square, where every shade of green was apparent ..!New York 339

Having negotiated the crowds, and appeared on the ’big screen’ in ’Forever 21’ (Can you se us ?)in Times square we made our way around to near St Patricks Cathedral, where we got a great position very near the marchers as they approached the Cathedral, and passed for their ’review’…New York 346

We stayed there for around 1 ½ hours, until the contingent from the ’Mayo’ association passed through, and then we moved. New York 613We went through St Patricks Cathedral, just as mass was about to start, and so stayed to celebrate the feast day.

We then got the Metro to 86th street, had a pint of the ‘black stuff’ in a convenient bar,New York 417 collecting some Shamrock necklaces as we went, and then around to near the end of the Parade route, at 79th and 5th ..a great location, where all the bands and marchers made their final demos and exit….New York 444

Eventually we left the area by 4-30 p.m. (should have finished by 4 p.m.) and had a few more pints before heading back to the area of Joe’s apt….

And an early night !

And…was it worth it, did it live up to expectations – definitely, and I’ve never been in so many bars absolutely overflowing with people, and celebrating a great feast day.
