As expected Fort William was cloudy and overcast as I awoke, so I took my time, had another shower, and filled the water tank, before washing all the clothes that were dirty, so that I could enter the ‘wilderness’ as clean as possible !
I then stocked up with as much as I thought I would need, and got as up to date on t’internet as I could…
Then it was off on the A86 to my home for the next few days – Creag Meagidh National Nature Reserve http://www.nnr-scotland.org.uk/creag-meagaidh/– which was deserted as I arrived in mid afternoon. It was quite cool, and breezy, but, most importantly…dry !
I could hear from the car park, the sounds of the Deer Stags challenging each other further into the reserve, and so packing a few things I was off, and up into the valley to see what was going on ! ( I would have shown you….but, forgot the camera !)
As I went further away from the road, I could hear the roar of the stags, but ,at first couldn’t see any, then I could see them, several different herds of deer, all with their ‘own’ stag, strutting about, calling to all and sundry (and his ‘harem’), trying to be the ‘top dog’ !
At the same time, watching an eagle soaring overhead, made me realise I’d made a good choice in coming here. I did try to work out my route for the following day, but low cloud prevented me from doing that.
I then returned to Wally, chilled but refreshed, and had dinner (of a hot chicken piri piri curry), and made my lunch for the following days ‘epic’,and an early night, memorising the route for the next day!
