So, as I awoke to…almost blue skies, I leisurely prepared myself for a days travelling and sightseeing, however as I went to the toilet block I noticed a quite unusual ‘attraction’ … a nest of swifts/swallows, I’m not sure which, where the chicks were almost ready to fledge, and leave the nest, with parents still feeding them, as you can see on the right of the photo !
So, showered and clean I set off wondering where my travels would take me…. firstly I went back to Alnwick http://www.visitalnwick.org.uk/ ,although decided to call back later for a look, and carried on to Amble,http://www.northumberland-coast.co.uk/amble.php which I’d heard mentioned, a small fishing port with a long fish jetty, with views across the water to Coquet Island.
Then from there I travelled back along the coast passing Warksworth Castle http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/warkworth-castle-and-hermitage/ , and on through Alnmouth http://search.bt.com/result?p=alnmouth&fr=slv8-bt-odtb with mainly brightly painted houses along the River, and back into Alnwick, for a ride through the market town centre, typical of Northumbrian rural market towns, and distant views of the Castle ,and a ‘pitstop’ at Morrisons before heading back to the coast to Beadnall Bay CCC site ,http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/siteseeker/aspx/details.aspx?id=8010&returnPage=search.aspx which was a strip of green, over the road from the sand dunes, directly on the beach of Beadnall Bay.
It was slightly deserted when I got there, although several others arrived at a similar time, although slightly breezy, it was sunny, and I was soon out on the beach, looking at the views.
I returned to Wally for a while for my evening meal, and was then back out onto the beach, as the sun went down behind the Cheviots, in a blaze of colour . I wandered along the beach going round several bays, and then just sat drinking in the views and sounds of birds all descending on the marshes to feed.
I then witnessed the unusual event of watching the moon come up, out of the sea in a blaze of Red, although I couldn’t capture the sight very well on camera and the higher it climbed into the sky, the deeper red it became, until it eventually resumed it’s normal colour ( Green cheese !)
So, with that experience I wandered back to Wally and settled down for an early night…Goodnight, wonder whether dawn will be as good ??
